WHEREAS, The Cammissioner of Highways has prepared preliminary plans
for the improvement of a part of Trunk Highway Number 390 renumbered as
Trunk Highway Number 35E within the corporate limits of the City of St.
Paul at Maryland Avenue; and
MHEREAS, Said preliminary plans are on file in the office of the
Depa�tment of Highways, Saint Paui , Minnesota, being marked, labeled, and
tdentified as Layout No. IA, S.P. 6280-185 (35E=390) at Marytand Avenue;
and
WHEREAS� Ssid �reliminary plans, indicating the proposed roadway
widening (including bridge wideni�g) and channetization of Maryland Avenue
between the woest service road of i-35E and Westminster Street, w�ere so
designed as to supplement and complement the widening and channelization
of Maryland Avenue between Abell Street and the I-35E w�est service road,
now under cont[act construction (and known as City Pro�ect No. P-o526A);
and
WHEREAS, Copies of said preliminary plans as so marked, labeled, and
identified are also on file in the office of the City's Department of
Public Wbrks; and
WHEREAS, The phrase "said preliminary plans" as hereinafter used shall
be dee�ed and intended to mean, refer to, and incorporate the preliminary
plans as in the foregoing recitals particularly identified and described;
Now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That said preliminary plans for the improvement of Trunk
Highway Number 390 renumbered Trunk Highway Number 35E within the limits
of the City of St. Paul at Marytand Avenne be and hereby are approved.

Dear Mayor Cohen:
Attached is a proposed Council Resolution for your consideration, indicating
approval of the Minnesota Highway Department's preliminary plans for the
roadway widening, bridge widening and channelizatio� of Ma�yland Avenue at
I-35E.
The Highway Department wa5 requssted by the Department of Public Works,
under authority of Administrative Order D-323, dated December 19, 1972, to
begin preliminary design of this pro,ject urhder our Engineering Assistance
Agreement.
This project is on the Federal Aid Urban System and is partially federally
funded on the condition that these funds can be camiitted prior to June 30,
1973• Final construction plans must therefore be approved by the City,
State and Federal Highway Administration by that time, less than six months
away.
We would therefore appreciate your expeditious consideration of this Resolu-
tion in order to remain on a rather tight design schedule. If the plans are
approved, it is anticipated tk�at the City will enter into a Cooperative Con-
struction Agreement with the State to detail the financial , design and con-
struction responsibilities.
