The Consumer Affairs office of the city of Saint Paul ' will begin operation Jant�ary 15 , Mayor bawrence Cohen announced today. j Under direction of Robert �Mattson, now a special investigator i in the City Attorney's office , the Consumer Protection function will � , operate temporarily out of the attorney 's sixth-floor office of i � I City Hall. The consumers ' phone line will be 298-4567 . i Shortly , the office will be housed in the more-publicly � visible first floor space of City Hall--in 1 ,200 square feet presently ; � occupied by the Ramsey County Assessor's Office , which is being � i restructured under Tax Depa�tment reorganization. � The office is authorized through two ordinances tone j establishing the office , the other defining unfair trade practices) � of Mayor Cohen and passed late last year by the Cit Council � Y � i which also has approved transfer of a special $36 ,000 appropriation � i to the attorney's budget . � The funds will pay for the director, two assistants and ' miscellaneous supplies . � - j I Details of procedures to be followed for filing and � i negotiating complaints will be announced soon. � , � - -- i , # # # � �
