The two resolutions in question, Council File No. 261752 and 261754 (Part B) , strike the age and height restrictions. The Committee passed a motion to place the ordinances on the agenda for Council consideration with the recommendation that they be approved as amended. George Jurgensen, President of Fire Fighters Local 21, stated for the record that his Union was in opposition to these two ordinances. He further stated this would lower the standards at a time when the Fire Department was being upgraded to professional standards. It was pointed out that restrictions on age and height are probably illegal under present Federal law.
