AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 207 OF THE SAINT PAUL
LEGISLATIVE CODE PERTAINING TO PERMITS FOR DRIVEWAYS,
SIDEWALK�, CURBS, ETC.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES ORDAIN:
Section 1.
Tha.t Section 207.02(2) be and is hereby deleted, and the
following substituted and adopted in lieu and in place thereof:
(2) He sha.11 execute and deliver to the City of St.
Paul a surety company bond for each separate piece of
property, in the sum of Five Thousand Dollars ($5,000.00),
conditioned to indemnify and save the City of St. Paul
ha.rmless from all dama.ges, judgments, losses, claims,
suits, or liabilities of every kind arising or growing
out of the construction, ma.intenance; operation, or
removal of coa.l-holes, areas, tunnels, and trap-doors;
the said bond to rema.in in force and effect as long as
the =�e or ��y part thereaf are ma.intained; and in the
case of the construction or� repa.ir of driveways, sidewalks,
or curbs, he sha.11 execute and deliver to the City of St.
Paul a surety compa.ny bond in the sum of Five Thousand
Dollars ($5,000:00), conditioned to indemnify and save
the City of St. Paul ha.rmless from any and all dama.ges,
judgments, claims, loss or liability arising or growing
out of the construction of the work. Said bonds shall
rema.in in force f or one year from and af ter the date of
completion of the work, and be in a form to be approved
by the City Attorney and shall be filed with the Department
of Fina.nce and Mana.gement Services . Provided, however,

tha.t in the case the work of constructing driveways,
curbs ar sidewalks is performed by a contractor licensed
by the City of St. Paul to do such works in the streets,
no bond shall be required. Al1 driveways, sidewalks and
curbs sha.11 be constructed in compliance with the rules
and regulations promulgated by the Director of the
Department of Public Works . These rules and regulations
shall include provisions dealing with materials, methods
of construction, minimum and ma.ximum width of driveways,
sidewalks, and other matters deemed necessary by the
said Director. Copies of all such rules and regulations
adopted by the Director, and any amendments thereto, sha.11
be maintained on file in the office of the City Clerk.
Section 2 .
This ordina.nce sha.11 take effect and be in force thirty (30)
days from and after its passage� approval and publication.

BUILDING of the Legislative Code Pertaining
to Permits for Driveways, Sidewalks,
Attention: Mr. Philip Lee Curbs, etc.
Dear Mayor Cohen:
At the present time there is no legal way to construct a driveway wider than
26 feet. In certain instances, a wider driveway is desirable. This is the
main reason for the amendment. We will also be able to establish rules and
regulations regarding this type of construction rather than being tied down
to specific widths and curb radiuses as are presently established in the
ordinance.
