02-248Council File # Ci�-- �. i- l$' Green Sheet # 110392 '17.:�U!;,��:i►1�1����_l Presented Refesed To � / � Date WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer is a lifelong Saint Paulite, growing up as a West Ender, attending Monroe High School, then along with his wife Kathy and three children, becoming East Siders; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer worked for the Pioneer Press for neazly thiriy-six yeazs, routinely demonstrating his gift for whittling big stories down to manageable size and introducing his readers to common and uncommon folks alike; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer has been nominated and received numerous awazds for his writing skills, including the presrigious Tom Carlin Award in 1996; and, WHEREAS, all who know Don Boxmeyer, personally or through his writing, recogmze him as a sensitive and kind "people person"; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer is known as a casual guy who hates neck ties and is described by friends as "an unconventionally dressed man with a strange mix of clothing choices who will never win an awazd for fashion from Esquire Magazine." Others said of Don, "The world is a tuxedo and 'Box' is a brown pair of shoes."; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer en}oys the camaraderie of lunching with friends and can often be found at his favorite East Side hangouts: The Minnehaha Tauern, The Little Oven - where he is one of only three "Itallian Stallions" that is not able to claim direct lineage to Ita1y, Yarusso's - where he is known as Don "The Don" Dei Fiacco's right-hand man, and most recently, he's been seen in sordid company at the newly opened East Side Embers in the New York Bingo Palace; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer loves the outdoors - especially fishing, and can often be found, along with his sons and his fishing buddy Jim Doyle, in his newest boat, which is rumored to be the size of the Titanic; and, WHEREAS, Don Boxmeyer spent much of his spare time as a handyman, in lifelong home remodeling project; and, WHEREAS, Don and Kathy Boxmeyer were active "hockey parents" as their children grew up.
