WI3EREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) through its Local
Trail Connections Grant Program has made funding available to assist local units of government
in completing trail connections between where people live and significant public recreation
facilities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is an eligible applicant and desires to submit an
application to the DNR Local Trail Connections Grant Program in the amount of $100,000 for
the Commercial Street Connector to Indian Mounds Regional Park project; and
WIIEREAS, the Division of Parks and Recreation has subtnitted the following project

pre-application to the DNR for the referenced grant program, to-wit:
Local Trai1 Connections Grant Prog�
Commercial Street Connector to Indian Mounds Regional Pazk - This project is a
one-half mile pedestrian and bicycle trail connection beginning at the end of the
Bruce Vecrto Regional Trail located at the intersection of Fourth and Commercial
Streets, and continuing adjacent to Commercial Street until it terminates at Indian
Mounds Regional Park; and
18 WI3EREAS, there is a need for a pedestrian/bicycle trail link from the intersection of
19 Fourth and Commercial Streets to the Bruce Vento Regional Trail in Indian Mounds Regional
20 Park to a11ow safe and convenient pedestrian and bicycle access for azea residents to Saint Paul's
21 ea�tensive trail system; and
22 WFIEREAS, the City of Saint Paul owns the properry on which the Commercial Street
23 Connector to Indian Mounds Regional Pazk project will be constructed; now, therefore;
24 BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul act as legal sponsor for the Commercial
25 Street Connector to Indian Mounds Regional Park project contained in the Loca1 Trail
26 Connections Crrant Program application, and that the Mayor and proper City officials aze hereby
27 authorized to apply to the Department of Natural Resources for funding of this project in the
28 amount of $100,000 on behaif of the City of Saint Paui; and
