RESOLVED, That the Northern States Power Company be given permission to
retire approximately 700 lineal feet of 8 inch low pressure gas main on
Rice Street�'$ridge 17 feet from the east property line between Acker Street
and Blair Avenue, as per attached and approved application and plans,
sub�ect to the following terms and conditions:
1. Any and all se�ments of the gas main which are to be abandoned
in place shall continue to be in records of Northern States Power
Company' s underground gas system and indicated as "abandoned in
place. "
2. Any and a11 segments of the gas ma.in which are to be abandoned
in place shall be removed from the dedicated street right-of-way,
by and at the sole cost and expenae of the Northern States Power
Company, whenever the �as main represents a public hazard or
interferes with a public improvement and the removal ia ordered
by the Dept, of Public Works.
3. Northern States Power Company shall indemnify and save harmless
the City of St . Paul from any and a11 liability, suits or
dema.nds, including the le al defense costs thereof, for bodily
in�uries (includin$ death� or property dama.ges, including losa
of use, arisin� out of the continued existence or future
removal of the $as ma.in as authorized by this Resolution.
� . Northern States Power Company shall make annual inapection of
the gas pipe abandoned in place on the bridge, shall ma.ke
written report of the annual inspection findings tv the
Department of Public Works, and ahall forthwith make any
repairs. necessary to eliminate any potentially dangerous
conditions discovered.

Dear Mavor Cohen:
Attached for your consideration is a proposed Resolution,
suhmitted at the request of Northern States Power Company,
prepared by Northern States Power Company at the direction
of the Department of Public Works.
Northern States Power proposes to retire from service and
abandon in-place an existing gas main on the Rice St. Bridge
over the Burlington Northern trackage. The Depar±ment of Public
Works is recommending Council approval of this request , subject
to the terms and conditions set forth in th� Res�lution.
