WHEREAS , recent federal funding cutbacks appear to have a
significant effect on the Saint Paul Public Library System; and
WHEREAS , the Cooperative Borrowing Program with other
metropolitan area libraries could be jeopardized by these cutbacks
in the amount of $100 ,000 ; and
WHEREAS , the city of Saint Paul and its citizens have
benefited greatly in recent years through iraproved library service ,
Now, Therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council, in an effort to
maintain the level of library service and continue the program of
upgrading, does hereby give its full support to Minnesota House File
No. 1194 , which provides state assistance to municipalities for library
service on a per capita basis at no cost to the municipality ; and be
it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that this support be transmitted to the
appropriate members of the Ramsey County Legislative Delegation,
including Chairman, Representative Bruce Vento, and Appropriations
Committee Chairman, Representative Fred Norton.
