Iarzitelli r Re: Transfer of #'unds provided for in the contingency reserve for Housing Tnspection The number of calls required in the hnusing inspection program has been increasing considerably. From 1971 to 19?2 there was an increase of approximately 7,000 calls. It is expected that from 1972 to 1973 there will be another increase of several thousand calls. H. U. 0. , in its appraisal of St. Paul's housing inspector needs, stated that an additional 15 men were needed to properly meet the needs of a city the size of St. Paul. H. U. D. has accepted St. Paul's offer to provide an additional 5 men the first yea (1973), with additional men to be hired in subsequent years. The increase in the number of calls appears to be due to the activities generated by the neighborhood development programs and also greater familiarity regarding the housing inspection program on the part of the general citizenry. We respectfully request that you present the attached resolution providing for the transfer of money appropriated in the contingency reserve for housing inspection into the budget of the Department of Community Services. c FDM:JH:mc _ c" . CC: JHaider ., c. City Hall, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55102 O
