02-150� a �. i � i i t _ . . _ ro.. .. `v;iL Green Sheet # _110094 Council File # C .'1 ��S RESOLUTION CITY OF SAINT PAUL, MINNESOTA Presented By Referred to �� Committee: Date 1 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) through its National 2 Recreation Trail Progam has made funding available to assist units of government for purposes 3 that include the development or rehabilitation of trailside or trailhead facilifies and recreational 4 trail linkages; and 5 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is an eligible applicant and desires to submit an 6 application to the DNR National Recreation Trail Program on February 28, 2002, in the amount 7 of $100,000 for the North Lexington Parkway Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail Tunnel project; and WHEREAS, the Division of Pazks and Recreation has submitted the following project pre-applicarion to the DNR for the referenced grant program, to-wit: 1Q 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 National Recreation Trails Proeram North Lexington Pazkway Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail Tunnel - Tkris project is intended to complete a Grand Round trail connection between Como Park to the north and the residential azea to the south by constructing a tunnel beneath the railroad tracks which run along Jessamine Avenue; and WHEREAS, there is a need for a pedestrian/bicycle trail link through a twuiel to be constructed beneath the Burlington Northern Railroad tracks along Jessamine Avenue which will connect Como Park north of the tracks with the residential neighborhoods to the south; and 20 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Division of Pazks and Recreation is in the process of 21 purchasing an easement from the Buriington Northern Railroad for the property on which the 22 North Lexington Pazkway Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail Tunnel project wi11 be constructed; now, 23 therefore; 24 25 26 27 28 29 BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul act as legal sponsor for the Nor[h Lexington Parkway Pedestrian/Bicycle Trail Tunnel project contained in the National Recreation Trail Program application to be submitted on February 28, 2002, and that the Mayar and proper City officials are hereby authorized to apply to the Department of Natural Resources for funding of this project in the amount of $100,000 on behalf of the City of Saint Paul; and 29 30 31 BE IT FURT'HER RESOLVEA, that the Mayor and proper officials of the City of Saint Paul are hereby authorized to execute such agreements as are necessary to implement the project on behalf of the City. ����������,�, �� Yeas Nays Absent Benanav ,/ Blakey _ ,i Bostrom_ ,,.
