3 WHEREAS, DoctorKing'sviews,hopesanddreamswheredeliveredtotheworldthroughhisexceptionaloratorical
4 skills and personal courage; and
5 WF3EREAS, More than 500 streets across the United States have been named after the slain civil rights leader as
6 a way to memorialize and honor his accomplishments and the relationship those accomplishmerrts have had on local
7 citizens; and
8 WF�REAS, Naming a street after someone who has contributed to positive change in our society is an acceptable
9 way to acknowledge their contributions; and
10 WI�REAS, Currently, no public street in Minnesota has been named after Dr. Martin Luther King Jr; now therefore
11 be it
12 RESOLVED, That Cedaz Street or another main thoroughfare in the City of Saint Paul have its name changed to
13 Martin Luther King Street; be it further
14 RESOLVED, That a public hearing be set for March 6, 2002 in the Council chambers to include public input in the
15 renaming process.
