WHEREAS, David Winfield, at the age of seven years began his
baseball and football career in the Summit University area of Saint Paul,
Minnesota; atte�ding Hill School where he participated in the American
Legion baseball program; played baseball at Marshall Junior High
School and basketball at Central High School, where he was chosen All
City Star for both ba5ketball and baseball; and
WHEREAS, during the years he played with Attucks Brooks American
Legion Post No. 606 , this team won the State Championship in 1967-1968,
on which David was voted the most valuable player at the State American
Legion Tourna�ment in 1968; and
WHEREAS, David, �t the University of Minnesota,for four years
played baseball, having led the Big Ten in pitching during his snphAm��ee
year, and was selected on the Al1 Big Ten, and is now currently captain
of the Gopher Baseball Team; and
WHEREAS, during his junior year at the University �of Minnesota � ;�'
he had an outstanding performance on the University of Minnesota
basketball team which won the Big Ten Championship for the first time
in thirty years ; and is currently playing his final year as a member
of the Gopher Basketball and Baseball teams;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT
RESOLVED, by the Mayor and the Council of the City of Saint Paul,
that they hereby wish to proclaim Saturday, February 24, 1973 , as
DAVE WINFIELD DAY by recognizing his many outstanding sch�olastic
abi.lities and outstanding athletic achievements ; and be it
