WHEREAS, A substantial number of junior and senior
highschool students attending both public and parochial
school rely on the public transit system as their main means
of transportation to and from school, and •
WHEREAS, There is c ntly no fare reduction provided
for ju ' r highsc students use the bus as transportation
to and fro hool, an
WHEREAS, There is State legislation which provides for
free bus transportation to and from school for junior and
senior highschool students attending both parochial and public
school, and
WHEREAS, This State legislation would not be effective
until the fall of 1974, and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transit Commission, under
Minnesota law is vested with the authority for the operation
of the public transit system, and this would include the
establishment of rates or fares to be charged for the use of
said public transit system; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the City Council of the City of Saint
Paul rec{uests the Metropolitan Transit Commission to institute
a ten cent ($ . 10) bus fare for all junior and senior highschool
students when using the bus as transportation to and from
school ; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the City Clerk of the City � of
Saint Paul is hereby directed to forward a copy of this
Resolution to the Metropolitan Transit Commission.
