WHEREAS, the Old Federal Courts Building is a major landmark
of national significance� being listed on the National Register of
Historic Places and declared by the State of Minnesota to be a
State Bi�entenrri.al�project of high priority; and
WHEREAS, city, county,and other public agencies are currently
housed in the building under the ownership of the City of Saint
Paul, with maintenance provided by the County of Ramsey; and
W!�REAS, increased use by the public, including public fu nctions
of importance to the State and metropolitan area would result if the
Old Federal Courts Building were adequately restored and renovated
to a fully usable and safe condition; and
WHEREAS, �2, 000�000 in private moneys has been raised from
Twin Cities sources for such restoration purposes ; and
WHEREAS, another �6,000,000 is required to bring the building
entirely to code and allow proper remodeling and renovation so that
it can. best serve broad publie uses , now, therefore , be it
RESOLVED� that the City Council, in coordination with Minnesota
Landmarks , Inc. � i�s Bicentennial agency, does hereby authorize and
make appeal to the Minnesota Resources Commission for a gran.t in the
amount of �950,000 for the purpose of providing major mechanieal re-
pair to the Old Federal Courts Building, and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby urges the Board
of County Commissioners of Ramsey County to make similar recommenda-
tion at its earliest possible opportunity.

make appeal to the rifnnesota Resources Coranissicsn for a grant in the am�unt o£
$950,000 for the purpose of providing raajor aechanical repair to the OId Federal
Courts Building.
