CITY OF SAINT PAUL Capital of Minnesote DEPARTMENT OP PUBLIC WORKS 234 City Hall Court House 55102 / July 24, 1974 Honorable Frank D. Marzitelli City Administrator Room 365 City Hall BUILDING Dear Mr. Marzitelli : The attached Ordinance listing five additions to the truck route system in St. Paul is a result of restrictive bridge postings and the need to provide bridge bypasses for certain trucks exceeding the allowable bridge weights. The bridge postings will go into effect shortly and they have already been passed by the City Councit . They are the result of a complete inventory by the City as the result of requirements by the Federal and State highway authorities. The effect of these postings on tocal trucking industry was discussed through an ad hoc committee involving the Chamber of Commerce, various industrial , transportation and truck organizations, labor unions and staff from the Department of Public Works. After many meetings, there was uanimous support from these organizatins on the bridge postings and the alternate routes. It is necessary that the five additions to the truck route Ordinance enclosed be passed in order to fulfill the agreement reached by the conittee and the City Councit . Please contact us if you have further questions on this rather involved and complex subject of bridge weight limits and their postings.
