WHEREAS, The Minnesota Legislature during its previous session approved a bill
allowing 65 ft. double bottom trucks to operate on the Stateis four lane divided highways
and other designated routes, and
WHEREAS, The intent of the law was to designate certain other routes to aliow trucking
companies to reach their terminals from the divided roadways, and
WHEREAS, Municipalities must approve all routes for double bottom designations under
their jurisdiction, and
WHEREAS, Specific requests have been received from several trucking companies iocated
in St. Paul , now, therefore, be it
RESO�VED, That the following routes within the City of St. Paul be designated approved
double bottom routes:
Snelling Ave, from Montreal Ave. to Comc� Ave.
Montreal Ave. from Snelling Avc. to W. Seventh St.
W. Seventh St. from Randolph Ave. to the south city limits
Randolph Ave. from W, Seventh St. to Drake St.
Drake St. from Randolph Ave, to W�tson St.
Ford Pkwy. from Snelling Ave. to the west city limits
Prior Ave. from University Ave. to Pierce Butler Rt.
Pierce Butler Rt. from Prior Ave, to Snelling Ave.

Dear Councilman Roedler:
Attached is a Resolution regarding double bottom routes within the City
of St. Paul . It is the opinion of the Corporation Counsel ' s Office that
the City Council must approve these routes.
The Prior Ave. location is at the request of Dart Transfer located on
Prior Ave. south of Pierce Butler Route. All of the other routes are at
the request of the various auto carriers. There are four terminal areas,
including the Ford Plant, Snelling Ave. just south of Como Ave. , Snelling
Ave. near Pierce Butler Route and Drake St. south of Randolph Ave.
Attached is a map showing the proposed routes. We would be happy to
discuss or explain this matter to the Public Works Committee or to the full
Council if you desire.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ROUTE ORDINANCE
All trucks of 15,000 ibs. rated .gross weight or under may travel on
any street in the city with the exception of city parks and restricted
parkways as shown on the map. The gross weight is the rated weight of
the vehicle o� combination of vehicles whether or not it is loaded, and
the weight must be stenciled on each side of the cab.
All trucks over 15,000 lbs. rated gross weight must use the routes �
� designated on the map except as follows:
Trucks may travel on any street within industrial districts and the
central business district.
When entering or l�aving e truck terminal or making a pickup or de-
livery� trucks shell reach or leave such location by traveling over the
shortest route from the nearest truck route. , Direct travel between de- �
liveries, without returning to truck routes, will be. allowed where the
distance between delivery points does not exceed one.mlle.
For delivery or pickup purposes caxnercial vehicles may travel on
designated parkways between the delivery or pickup location and adjacent
intersections. -
No truck having an over-all length of nwre than thirty feet shall
enter any alley in the central business district except by special police
per�It.
Randolph Avenue and St. Clair Avenue between West .Seventh Street and
Cieveland Ave�ue, and Grand Avenue between Dale Street and Cretin Avenue

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE COMMERCIAL VEHICLE ROUTE ORDINANCE
All trucks of 15,000 lbs. rated gross weight or under may travel on
any street in the city with the exception of city parks and restricted
parlaways as shawn on the map. The gross weight is the rated weight of
the vehicle o� con�ination of vehicles whether or not It is loaded, and
the• weight aiust be stenciled on each side of the cab.
Al1 trucks over 15.000 lbs. rated gross weight nwst use the routes
designated on the map except as follows:
Trucks may travel on any street within i�dustrial districts and the
central buslness district.
When entering or leaving a truck ter�inal or making a pickup or de-
livery� trucks shall reach or leave such location by t�aveling over the
shortest route fro� the nearest truck route. Direct travel between de-
liveries, without returning to truck routes� will be allow�d where the
distance between delivery points does not exceed one �ile.
For delivery or pickup purposes conrnercial vehiclss msy traval on
designated parkways between the delivery or pickup locatlon and adjacent
intersections.
No truck having an over-all length of aare than thirty feet shall
entar any alley in tbe cent�al business district except by spaciel police
pe�mit.
Randolph Avenue and St. Clair Avonue between West Seventh Street and
Cleveland Avenue, and 6rand Avenue between Oale Street and Cretin Avenue
are not designated truck routes. However� commeretal vehicles over
15,000 lbs. gross weight when making a delivery, plckup� or when travel-
ing to or fran a t�uck terminal . located in the area bounded by Mississippi
River Boulevard� Marshall Ave�ue, Sneliing Avanue� Selby Avenue, Sua�oit
Avenue, Kellogg Boulevard, West Seventh Streat. Otto Avenue� and Highland
Parkway� shall consider Randolph Avenue between West Seventh Street and
Cleveland Avenue� St. Clair Avenue between West Seventh Street and Cleve-
land Avenue, and Grand Avenue between.Dale Street and Cretin Avenue as
truck routes� and all provisions of this ordinance applicable to truc.k
�outes shall apply.
