CITY OF SAINT PAUL
OFFICE OF THE CITY ATTORNEY
3 October 1974 R. SCOTT DAVIES
M E M O R A N D U M
TO: Members of the Saint Paul City Council
FROM: Michael J. Iannacone, Investigator
RE: Registered Bills 3-7006 and 3-6225
Registered Bill 3-7006 - $118.13
This bill represents damage to a police vehicle occurring
on July 17, 1972, as a result of a collision between the
debtor's vehicle and a police squad car. The police
vehicle drove at and into the debtor' s vehicle in order
to stop it. There is no basis for liability and the bill
should be cancelled.
Registered Bill 3-6225 - $2, 750.00
The accident which ca.used the dama, ges to the city police
vehicle was caused by a stolen vehicle and the driver of
the vehicle was a juvenile. There was no insurance appli-
cable to cover the city' s damages. Attempts to collect
this bill have been unsuccessful and the policeman in-
volved in the accident has been unsuccessful in his
private action for damages as there are no funds to
satisfy a judgment. Costs to pursue this matter would
exceed the probability of any recovery and it is recommended
that this bill be cancelled as uncollectable.
