FURTHER RESOLVED, that the committee will also make a
determination on how much restoration is needed to render the
structure useful for the recommended use(s) ; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, tha.t said committee will report its
findings back to the City within a period of not to exceed
60 days after members are appointed; and be it
FURTHER RESOLUED, that membership on the committee be
composed of a representative of each of the following units:
the Ramsey County Historical Society, the Minnesota Historical
Society, the State Department of Administration, the Historic �
Resources Committee of the Minnesota Society of Architects,
the Ca.pitol Area Architectural and Planning Board, the St. Paul
City Council, and the St. Paul Mayor's Office; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor is requested to appoint
as a public member at large of the committee, Mr. Jim Sazavich,
whose concern has been instrumental in bringing this matter
to light.

WHEREAS, the Dahl House, located at 136 Thirteenth Street
in Saint Paul, built in the same year that Minnesota became a
state, is one of the few rema:ining houses as old as the state;
and
WHEREAS, the Dahl House is one of a very few examples
remaining of a residence of the "common man" to survive from
the pioneer era of St. Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Historical Society has found that
the Dahl House possesses historical significance for the City
of St. Paul and that it merits preservation, if at all possible
on its present site; and
WHEREAS, the Capitol Area Architectural and Planning Board
has found that the house, on its present site, would have no
adverse effects on the Master Plan for the Capitol area; and
WHEREAS, the house is owned by the State of Minnesota, and
is i�.tendQd to be der�olished for use by the state motor pool;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the St. Paul City Council records its intent
to investigate all avenues of preserving this historic structure
on its present site; and be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council requests the Ma.yor to
appoir�t a connnittee to study and report on uses for the Dahl
House 'on its present site which would be reminiscent of and
compatible with its historical significance; and be it
