This property is further described as follows: Lots 8-18, Block 2, Williams� Rearrangement of Block 7 and part of Block 4, Nelson's Ad�dition to the City of St. Paul. This matter was heard by the Board af Zoning on May 1, 1975. Staff gave their report on this matter and recommended approval of the permit contingent upon the vacation of the alley between York and Wells, from Arcade to Mendota, and the develope� meeting the conditions required by the various review agencies of the City. After a brief discussion of the site plan and the immediate need for parking, a motion was made to recom�end approval of the permit contin- gent upon the developer meeting all the requirements of the various City agencies. The subject property is part of a larger parcel rezoned from "B" Residential and Commercial to Light Industrial on April 10, 19I75. B. FRONTAGE AND AREA: The site has a frontage of 364 feet on York and a depth of 145 feet, for an area of 52,780 square feet. This computation includes the east-west alley running through the subject property. C. SITE CONDITIONS: The site is currentl,y vacant and at street grade. Bryan, Willits and Rupp of the Board; Mr. McCioskey, Assistant CitylAttorney; Mr. Mc6ui�e and Mrs. Beseman of the Planning Staff.� WHIRLPOOL CORPORATION (7766) : An appliaation for a permit to i�statl a 153-car parking lot on property located on the s�outh side of York between Arcade and Mendota. Mr. McGuire showed slides of the site an�d prese�ted the staff report. He stated this parking lot was proposed to alleviate parking problems in the gene�al area for the St. Paul plant. There are no substantial difficulties. They talked with the developer and he is willing to meet with the condltions of the various City agencies. The staff recommendation is for approval of the permit contingent upon the vacation of the alley between Ydrk and Wells, from Arcade to Mendota, and the developer meeting any conditions required by various review agencies o� the City. The proposed development of the site was presented to the Boa�d members, and was reported �hat the existing alley must be vacated before the final action can be taken on the pe�mit. Mr. Bryan asked how deep the landscaping would be. Mr. McGuire reported approximately 15 feet according to the dimension on the proposed plan. There is a hedge running along the property by the single family home whlch wiii remain. M�. Jack Hoeschle�, representing Whirlpool , stated that the work is about to commence on the expansion of the plant, and they will need parking inmediately for the cars of the constructio� workers, in addition to the cars of the regular plant workers. There was no one in opposition to this matter. Mrs. Showatter asked if the Traffic Enginieer approved of the driveway onto Arcade Street. Mr. McGui �e reported that the Traffic Engineer has not indicated that it would be a problem at this point. Mr. Bryan made a motion to recommend apprpval of the permit contingent that the developer meet al ) the requireme�ts of the various City agencies.
