01-835council File # 6 I_ g 35 Green Sheet # ��L� g RESOLUTION CITY OF-�A�INT PAUL, 11lI Presented Referred 1 WI3�REAS, the Saint Paul City Council is comn 2 of hate, prejudice, racism and discrimination; and a city that is working to have communities free 3 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council is concerned with the Klu Klus Klan, National Socialist Pariy, Aryan 4 Nation and other hate groups coming to Saint Paul on Saturday, August 25, 2001 to pxomote hate, prejudice, racism 5 and discrimination against protected class persons; and WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council strongly supports the First Amendment, we do not support or want the Klu Klux Klan, National Socialist Parry, Aryan Nation or other hate groups in our city because historically these groups have committedterroristic acts specifically against African-American, Jews, Gays/Lesbians, Chicano Latinos and other protected class groups; and 10 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council wants to be one of the first ciries in the United States of America to 11 officially go on record to say individuals andhate groups such as the K1uK1uY Klan, National Socialist Pariy, Aryan 12 Nation and other similar hate groups, aze not welcome in the City of Saint Paul; and 13 WHEI2EAS, the Saint Paul City Council supports the Saint Paul Department of Human Rights anti-hate conference 14 on Wednesday, August 22, 2001, the YWCA/YMCA anti-hate rally on Friday, August 24, 2001 and the City of 15 Saint Paul community gathering on Saturday, August 25, 2001; and 16 WIIEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council is asking all citizens to attend the aforementioned events and in this 17 manner say no to hate, prejudice, racism and discrimination but also encourages all citizens to commit themselves 18 to making their home and community better for individuals from all walks of life regardless of their protected class 19 status. 20 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council hereby requests the Director of the Saint 21 Paul Depariment of Human Rights and the Chief of the Saint Paul Police Department to develop and implement 22 proactive measures and steps, including, but not limited to educating the community on the upcoming hate/bias 23 rally. 81-835 1 BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby requests the Director of the Saint Paul 2 Department of Human Rights and the Chief of Police of the Saint Paul Police Department to provide quarterly 3 reports and updates on the City's HateBias Response Network initiative and how coilaborative efforts and 4 partnerships have been formed to optimize on all possible city, state, federai and community resources.
