RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Saint Paul
hereby approves :
"A bill for an act relating to severance pay for
employees of cities , townships and school districts ;
providing for certain limitations on such payments ;
amending Minnesota Statutes 1974, Section 465.72. "
and recommends the same to the Ramsey County 5enate and House
delegations .

relating to severance pay for employees of

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 1974, _ Section 465 .72,
is amended to read:
465. 72 �EVERANCE PAY_7 ��es��-as-�s�-e��e���se-�e
��a���e�-��-�ewe-�9��;-ene��e�-��9;-a�-a�e��e�; All counties ,
cities , home rule charter cities , ����sges;-�e�e�g�s;
townships and school districts are hereby authorized and
empowered to pay severance pay to all of its employees and
to establish, prescribe and promulgate provisions , rules and
regula-tions for the payment of such severance pay upon leaving
employment prior to the normal retirement date . Such severance
pay shall be excluded from retirement deductions and from any
calculations in retirement benefits , and shall be paid over a
period not to exceed five years from termination of employment .
In the event that a terminated employee dies before all or a �
portion of the severance pay has been disbursed, that balance
due shall be paid to a named beneficiary or, lacking same ,
to the deceased' s estate . In no event shall se verance pay
��a���e� exceed 100 days ' pay or �4� 000, whiehever is �reater,
for an employee leaving employment e�e�e�-e�-a�a���-e����s�e��
�e-�99-�s�s-�s�. No limitations shall be imposed o�her than
workin� days in determinin� maximum severance pay unless
100 i�orkin� davs is established as maximum for severance , _

Sec . 2. This act is effective as of Janua�v 1, _1974.
