01-765��1L�3��� CITY OF PresenTed by Referred To Council File # O_ 6 S Green Sheet # \ \3 6SQ Committee Date RESOLUTION HONORING ANNE HUNT'S TWELVE YEARS OF LEADERSHIP OF TI� SAINT PAUL NEIGHBORHOOD ENERGY CONSOR"ITUM t1ND RECOGDIIZING HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO IMPROVING THE CITY OF SA1NT PAUL'S ENVIRONMENT AND ITS QUALITY OF LIFE 1 WI�REAS, Anne Hunt is stepping down as the executive d'uector of the Saint Paul Neighborhood Energy Consortium 2(SPNEC) this month, a position which she has held for over the last twelve yeazs; and 3 WI�REAS, under Anne's leadership the SPNEC grew from a small organization of four full-time employees focused on 4 energy efficiency to a comprehensive environmental organization, with more than 30 full-time employees, which 5 provides information, services and programs which contribute to an envuonmentally responsible community; and 6 WHEREAS, the SPNEC is responsible for providing recycling services for most of the City of Saint Paul, and since the 7 program went citywide in 1986, under her leadership, the organization has increased the tonnage of recycled materials ten 8 fold to 21,000 tons; and 9 WHEREAS, the SPNEC's recycling program during her tenure received numerous distinguished awazds for its recycling 10 program, including: the 1991 Best Urban Program Awazd from the National Recycling Coalition, the Creative 11 Achievement in Recycling Promotions Awazd from the Association of Recycling Managers, and the 1999 U.S. 12 Conference of Mayors Top-ten Multifamily Recycling Program Award; and 13 WHEREAS, Anne has overseen the development of numerous innovative environmental programs including the Saint 14 Paul Classic Bike Tour, the WoodWins program, the Energy Cents Coalition, and numerous commmmity education efforts 15 on such topics as native plant gardening and energy efficiency; and 16 WHEREAS, Anne Hunt has been one of the CiTy's most significant promoters of "green buildings" and was tireless in 17 her cause to construct a state-of-the-art green building for the new SPNEC headquarters which now serves as a model of 18 environmentally sensitive construction and architecture for the entire community; and 19 WIIEREAS, anyone who has had the pleasure of knowing Anne professionally or personally recognizes her as someone 20 who is passionate, energetic, and committed to improving the environment; as a leader who not only provides a strong, 21 cleaz vison but takes steps to implement it; and as a colleague and a supervisor who listens and allows her staff latitude to 22 be creative and innovative; and 23 WIIEREAS, Anne, as a 15 year resident of the City of Saint Paul and a descendent of a long-line of Saint Paul citizens, 24 has demonstrated her personal dedication and enthusiasm for the City as a promoter of urban bird-watching, by planting 25 countless trees along the Mississippi River, by participating in neighborhood clean-ups, and as a front-row season ticket 26 holder for the Saint Paui Saints; now therefore be it 27 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City CounciI honors Anne Hunt for her fremendous and committed leadership of fhe 28 Saint Paul Neighborhood Energy Consortium and recognizes her many contributions to Saint Paul's environment and its 29 quality of life.
