NOTES OF THE PROPERTY CODE ENFORCEMENT MEETING
Tuesday, July 17, 2001
Room 330 Courthouse
Gerry Strathman, Legislarive Hearing Officer
STAFF PRESENT: John Betz, Code Enforcement
The meeting was called to order at 132 p.m.
2650 TJniversity Avenue West (Laid over from 6-19-Oi)
Gerry Strathman denied tYte appeal. T4us is regarding a rain leader disconnect. Public Works
informed him this matter has been resoived.
1237 Matilda Street
John Betz reported Code Enforcement received a complaint. An inspector went out and issued
an order to make repairs to the garage roof and fascia. The main problem is the infestation of rats
in the garage. Mr. Betz went out and observed at least one rat. Another notice was sent to the
properiy owners to eliminate the rat infestation.
Julianne Walcheski, owner, and Robert Piele, appeazed. Ms. Walchesld stated they set out
poison and cleaned out the garage. They just need more time to do repairs on it. The rats have
been a problem in the neighborhood for a while. Since the garage has been set with poison, she
hasn't seen any rats. Most of the garage has been gutted.
Mr. Piele stated there is a sewer 10 feet away from the garage. He probably got 15 rats out of the
garage.
Mr. Strathman asked when the garage would be repaired. Mr. Piele responded he would like 90
days to fill in the holes, fix the fascia. The roof is a different problem, and they do not know
what they will do with it. The rats are eliminated.
Mr. Betz stated he does not want the 90 day eatension to include the rats. Mr. Piele responded
the extension would just be for the repairs.
Ms. Walcheski asked what else she can do to prevent the rats. Mr. Betz responded the food
source is the main problem. He will make sure tivimal Control baits the sewers in the area. If
the food sources are eliminated, the rats will probably not reappeaz.
Gerry Strathman denied the appeal. The order was correct. The owners responded to the order;
therefore, there is nothing left to appeal.
1947 Grand Avenue
Gerry Strathman sent a letter to the appellant granting the appeal on the nonconforming doors on
the following conditions: 1) If the nonconforming doors ever need to be replaced, they will be
