Project No. 76-P-0689, by recanstructing on new aTignment and doing all
other work necessary and incidenta] to said improvement.
EXISTING CONDITIONS
Phalen Park is in the process of 6eing completely redesigrted. When the Park
is completed and opened in 1977, one of the major entrances wtll be thrt
the Johnson Parkway-llaryiand Avenue intersection. Johnson Parkway is paved
to a width of 30 feet. hlaryiand is 40 feet betweert curbs and marked for
Z lanes of traffic in each direction. The intersecting angles af Johnson-
Maryland, and Johnson-East Shore Drive are bad and no turn ianes exist.
Marytand has an average daily traffic count of approximately 19,000 vehictes
and Johnson Parkway carries approximately 500 vehicles daily. Considerable
congestian and traffic delay therefore occurs during times of peak flow.
PROPOSED IMFROVEMENTS
.ION/Sdid KWY
Commencing at Burnquist Street, Marytand Avenue wi1T be tapered to a wider
width to a}low for turn siots at . The taper wili then eturn ta
, match the existing roadway at the railroad overpass east of Johrsson. Parkway.
The existing pavement will remain with bituminous widening and new concrete
curb and gutter being constructed.
The existing Jahnson Parkway iil be removed completely. New construction
will be a 28 foot roadway in each direction with an 18 foot grass median.
New alignment will be used to i:nprove intersection angles. Raadway surface
will be bituminous with concrete curb and gutter.
__ CST ESTtMATE
Construction costs are estimated at $298,000, to be funded erttirely with iq7&
Municipal State Aid Funds.
