1 RESOLUTION TO ASSIST CITY RESIDENTS IN COMBA'TTING RECENT
2 ACTS OF RACISM AND PROMOTING TOLERANCE
3 WI-�REAS, there are reports from neighborhoods throughout Saint Paul that fliers bearing racistmessages
4 are being distributed from door to door; and
5 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, all city departments and a11 city-supported community and
6 neighbarhood organizations haue repeatedly asserted, through all of their projects and programs that
7 prejudice will not be tolerated here; and
8 WHEREAS, Saint Paul is a city that welcomes people of all races, ethnic backgrounds, creed or religions,
9 ancestry, ages, sexual or affectional orientation, familial status, disability, marital status or status with
10 regard to public assistance; and
i i WF3EREAS, the City of Saint Paul values its great diversity as a source of strength; and
12 WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul recognizes that only by promoting its diversity can the city achieve the
13 status of a world class city; therefore be it

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council asks the Department of Human Rights to lay out the steps
it will take this suinmer to combat racism and promote tolerance in our community and will report to the
City Council in writing by July 5, 2001; and
4 RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul invites all residents, business owners, neighborhoods, business
5 and community organizations to join with the Human Rights Department and all city departments in
6 actively promoting tolerance and in recognizing the strength that comes from diversity, and welcoming
7 people of diverse backgrounds to participate in a11 aspects of community life.
