BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
. DR. GEORGE BERRY
Dr. George Berry is a veterinarian, a graduate of Iowa State
University . Pre-veterinarian education was accomplished at
Hamline University in Saint Paul and at Fisk University in
Nashville, Tennessee.
Dr. Berry has been employed by the United States Department
of Agriculture for the past 38 years . He is presently a�
Circuit Supervisor for Meat and Poultry Inspection for the
state of Minnesota .
Dr. Berry is a native Saint Paulite. His present address is
983 St. Anthony Avenue.
Dr . Berry has served on many church and civic organizations ,
among which were president and treasurer of J.J.Hill PTA; life
member of Minnesota PTA; Board of Directors of Hallie Q. Brown;
Bishop and Council of the Episcopal Diocese of Pdinnesota; the
Vestry of St . Philips Episcopal Church, the Saint Paul Board
of Education ; the Mayor ' s Special Committee on Drug Abuse ;
and National School Board Association Delegate Assembly .
Other distinctions would include being named Civil Servant of
the Year in 1969, and is believed to be the first black elected
to public office in Saint Paul .

I herewith submit for your consideration and
approval proposed resolutions confirming my appointments
of the following as members of the Civil Service Commission
of the City of Saint Paul :
Dr. George Berry, 983 St . Anthony Avenue,
to fill the vacancy created by the
resignation of Ruth Schwarzwalder, such
term to expire on June 13, 1978 .
' Mrs . Marylyn Deneen, 831 West Nebraska,
to serve for a six-year term expiring on
June 13, 1982 .
I have enclosed brief resumes on Dr. Berry and
Mrs . Deneen which I trust will be satisfactory for your
purposes .
