Council Resolution Presented By Referred To Committee: Date Out of Committee By Date WHEREAS, the National Endowment for the Arts has a program to provide ma.tching funds for contemporary art in public places, and WHEREAS, the City of St. Paul would benefit from such a grant to commission a major work of sculpture to be placed in the central business district, such a commission to cost $50,000 and WHEREAS, local artists would benefit from the com�nissioning of such a work of sculpture from artists in the region, and - , WHEREAS, the application for matching funds from the National Endawment for the Arts must be made by Septe�er 1, 1976, and i�HEREAS, the Ame�ican National Bank has agreed to provide the City with an easement on a portion of its property at the southeast corner of Sixth and Minnesota streets for placement of the sculpture if the grant is approved, and WHEREAS, the A�erican National Bank has further agreed to provide $10,000 of the required $25,000 local match, and has agreed that its staff, in con�unction with the St. Paul Arts and Science Council, will assist in raising the remaining $15,000 of the required local match as well as the additianal costs, if the grant is approved, therefore be it RESOLVED, that the City of St. Paul agrees to apply to the�National Endo�wment for the Arts for a ma.tching grant of $25,000 to provide the public with a work of sculpture costing $50,000 and requests Mayor George Latimzr to execute in the nam�e of the City any and all necessary applica- tions and supporting documents, and further be it RESOLVED, that the City of St. Pau1 agrees to act as guarantor for _ COUNCILMEN -- Yeas Nays Requested by Department of: Butler In Favor Hozza Hunt Levine __ Against $Y Roedler Sylvester Tedesco Form Approved by City Attorney Adopted by Council: Date Certified Passed by Council Secretary BY By : Approved by 17ayor: Date Approved by Mayor for Submission to Council By BY `WHI7E - CITV CLERK •1����� �PINK - FINANCE G I TY OF SA I NT PA LT L Council r4 CANARV - DEPARTMENT � BLUF� - MAVOR File NO.
