DEMOL TT ION
SCOPE OF WORK
The work required under this sectian of the specification
includes furnishing all labor, materials, ec�.:ipment and
services necessary for or re�sonably incidental to the
. wre�king of the structures, Lhe removal of steps or stoops
adjacent to the structures, etc. as speciiied and the renowal
of debri� at the locations as listed in the applicable addendum,
Saint Pau1, Minnesota.
RO���,AND PEST CONTROL
No work shall start and no permit shall be issued as herein
pzovided fo.r the-wrecking, demolition Qr tearing down of any
building or structure in the City until satisfactory evidence is
furnished by :a certificate from th� Health Officer that a
licensed pest �controi company has exte�m,in.ated all nui�ance
pests from the �tructure and premises.

Structures shall be wrecked at the sites.
Care must be taken during demolition work nvt to un�exmine
adjacent private property or the street o� alley right-of-way.
Exterior foundation walls supporting or in contact with ar in
gublic sidewalks or alieys which are to remain in use, shall
be removed down to the respe�tive grade. All basement floor
slabs shall be broken u}� so that water cannot coll.ect. The
slabs shall be broken into pieces which cover no more than ane
squa�e yard. The floor slabs shall be inspected �rior to the
placing af any fill.
The Contra�tor as soon as he receives the natice to proceed with �
the work shall enter the prernises and do any and all things
n�cessary to protect the premises from dainage by gersons who are
unauthorized to carry on wrecking operations. The structure
shall be wrecked in a proper and ap�roved manner.
The Contractor shall exercise extreme caution in the wreckin
�erations to �rotect ad-jacent property.
No material shail be dropped or thrown ' fram any great height_ �
All materials which are not removed b � derricks or other similar �
euuipment shall. be lowered by rc�e; z�s o�'tapproved chutes and �
shali be sprinkled and dampenec� +�,�:;th dr�ter to al.lay any dust. F
Explosives shall not be used in the wrecking operations. �

� The Contractor shall wreck and remave the structures.
The Contractor shall remove foundation walls to an elevation
of not less than three (3) feet below the 1eve1 af the abutting
ground iine. The Contractor shall remove all basement columns,
partitions and partition walls to the level of the basement
f ioors.
The Contractar shall remove all piping, conduit, heating
, facilities, tanks, furniture, rubbish, combustible materials,
� etc. from the basement excavation.
The Contractor :shall remove steps or stoops adjacent to the
structure or other projecting obstructions in the yard, and
shall remove a1i trash and debris.
Sufficient safety precautions shall be taken by the Cont=actor
and by the workmen at all times during the wrecking operatians
to s�feguard life, limb and prope=ty.
PUBLIC UTILITIES

The �ontractor shall take care of all public utilities
�ncount�red during the progress of the work. He shall send
proper notices, make the necessary arrangements. and provide aIl
services rec7ua.red to take care of gas mains, water pipes, sewer
pipes, electrical wires, telephone and telegraph conduit and
cables, fire plugs, lamp pasts, sign posts and any other item
�f this character, assu�ning all responsibility and paying all
costs for whi.ch the City of St_ Pau1 may be liable. Ail sewers
shall be pluqged, caulked and sealed with cQncrete at the �
pro�erty lzne. The pluqqanq of sewers shall be done in �
accordance with the re irements f the S paul Sewer De artment.
The Contractor shall cansult all public and service company
records to inform h:imsel� of the locations of all utilities.
Lc�cations of water, gas, sewer and other pi�es shall be cleariy
marked so that they can be located at any futu=e time.
SHORIlVG AND BRAC ING

PROfiECTTDN OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PR�PERTY
In the work operations�`in�iol:v�d in wrecking of the buildings
the Contractor shall use every gsecaution to protect the public
from personal harm and protect all private and public pro ert
fram damage. The Contractor shall erect suitable barriers toy
prevent people from getting into the danger zone and to prevent
them from falling into holes or depressions_

EXCAVAT�IG, GRADING AND SITEWORK �����Y

The work required under this section of the specification shali
include all labor, materials, equipment and services necessary
for or reasonably incidental to the filling of the basement
excavation and all holes and depressions occasioned by the
' wrecking or presently existir. 3 on the sites of the wark.
F ILLING
The Gontr:actor shall not place anY fill of any nature whatsoever
in the basement excavation until the excavatzon has been inspected
��
bY the City Architect or his representative and his pernussion is
given to proceed with tre fillinq.
The C�ntractor shall fill the basement excavation and all holes
and depr�ss.ion� to the Ievel of the abutting g�aund line with
cZean dirt. [+�here the ground line slopes, the Cantractor shall
inatch the slope with the �op of the fill.
Fill shall be granular material. Clay materiai or any material
of which more than'20/ passes the #200 sieve �aill not be allawed
as fill material. Fill shall be compacted to 90% of Standard
Proctor test.
Fill shall be placed and compacted with two (2) foot maximum
lifts. �
SAFETY
The Contractor shalZ use every precautian to protect the public

CLEAN UP

Upon the completion of the work reauired under triis specification,
�.he �ontractor sha11 remove all tools, equipment, scaffalding,
debris and other materials from ti�e premises. The enti=e pre�u.ses
shall be left in a clean cor_dition to the satisfactian of the
Cit� Arciyitect.
