Supervision Exercised: Exercises close technical supervision within a unit on a project basis or as assigned. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Acts as chief of party on surveys, relocations and construction, utilizing modern survey methods and equipment to insure survey data consistent with professional standards. Assists in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates of Public Works projects. Inspects on-going and completed construction projects. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIE5 Working knowledge of general engineering technology. Working knowledge of property and real estate legislation. Considerable skill in the operation and application of land surveying practices and equipment. Working skill in applying mathematics to land surveying and engineering problems. Considerable ability to demonstrate work practices and to supervise crew members. Considerable ability to make effective, independent decisions in approved areas. Considerabie ability to develop and coordinate land and construction surveys. MIIVIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High school graduation and at least 40 credit hours acceptable toward the basic engineering certificate as given by the University of Minnesota. (Certain courses may be substituted for those required for the basic engineering certificate; a list of such substitute courses is maintained in the Personnel Office), and three years' experience as an Instrumentman, Public Works Technician I, Traffic Technician I, Engineering Draftsman II, or equivalent. Each additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for five credit hours. Additional experience as an Engineeririg Aide II, Traffic Engineering Aide II or Engineering Draftsman I is qualifying for the first fifteen credit hours. + M ������ Title of class: INSTRUMENTMAN DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Performs skilled work operating survey instruments and conducting routine land and construction surveys, assisting in the preparation of construction plans, and inspecting construction contracts; and performs related duties as required. 5upervision Received: Works under the general technical direction of a higher level supervisor or technician and the general administra- tive direction of a unit head. Supervision Exercised: May exercise immediate technical supervision over lower level technicians assigned to survey work. Operates and maintains land survey instruments; records, checks and corrects survey field notes and makes field sketches. Takes charge of field survey parties in the absence of the party chief. Inspects on-going and completed minor construction projects. Assists in preparing plans, specifications and cost estimates of Public Works projects. KNOWLEDGE5, SKILL5 AND ABILITIES Working knowledge of general engineering technology. Working skill in the ope ration and application of land surveying practice s and equipment.
