5ection 1. That Ordinance No. ?607, approved February 13,
1935, as amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking
out the title and specifications for "Assistant Chief Accountant", and by
substituti.ng in lieu thereof,. in its proper alphabetical order, t1�.e title

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs managerial work in operating an
accounting system of a department; assists in developing central
accounting systems and procedures; and performs related duties as
required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
the Chief Accountant.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a division or department generd�
t echnical and administrative supervision directly over intermediate
and full performance clerical, professional and technical accounting
work.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Assists in the development and maintenance of a central system of accounts
for all departments and agencies.
Assists in the development of operating procedures for an accounting system
including payroll auditing, general disbursement auditing and accounting.
Assists in the development and preparation of the City budget; prepares and
administrates the budget for an accounting division.
Supervises and organizes an accounting system; recruits and interviews
prospective employees and recommends final personnel actions.
Compiles, organizes and updates forms and procedural and operational
manuals; supervises or conducts new employee training and orientation
programs.
Supervises the maintenance of the general ledger.
Supervises the compiling and preparation of annual accounting reports and
other divisional reports.
Represents the Chief Accountant at meetings of accountants from all City
departments.
Represents an accounting division before City officials, department heads,
civic groups, business organizations and other government units.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Expert knowledge of government accounting, auditing and financial reporting.
Working knowledge in the procedure of issuing and maintaining municipal bonds.
Considerable knowledge of governmental accounting practices and procedure_.
Considerable knowledge of the City Charter, administrative code, laws,
ordinances and resolutions that pertain to an accounting division and its
operation.
Considerable ability to determine priorities, organize and delegate work.
Considerable ability to establish working relationships with subordinates.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIOIVS
College graduation with a major in accounting or equivalent and ten years '
experience in accounting, at least six years of which must have been as
an Accountant III or equivalent. (No substitution for education. )
