WHEREAS, Chapter 5.02 of the City Charter provides that the
Council may appoint special counsel to the City Attorney upon
his request; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 74 of the Legislative Code requires an
attorney to act as chairman and hearing officer of a panel of
Human Rights Commission members assembled pursuant to Chapter
74 of the Legislative Code to hear discrimination cases; now,
therefore , be it
RESOLVED, That the Council hereby consents to the City
Attorney' s request and approves the appointment of Shyamala
Rajender, attorney at law, as special counsel and hearing
officer in a certain discrimination case -entitled "Donald
Lewis, Director, St. Paul Department of Human Rights ex rel.
Judith Darby v. Gould Inc. , " and sets her compensation for
services performed at $40.00 per hour; her fees being payable
by and from the Department of Human Rights.
