1 WHEREAS, there is strong community concern and belief that racial profiling is happening in the City of Saint Paul;
2 and
3 WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police Department began, in mid-Apri1200Q collecting data relating to potential use of
4 racial profiling by its police officers; and
5 WHEREAS, racial profiling discussion in the City of Saint Paul has largely been limited to the City's Police
6 Deparhnent, the City Council and a closed-door U.S. Department of Jusrice-facilitated discussion between the Police
7 Department and the Saint Paul branch of the NAACP, although a11 parties have expressed their interest in broadening
8 these discussions; now therefore be it
9 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council schedules a Council Racial Profiling Policy Session and Public
10 Hearing on June 20, 2001; and be it
11 RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council directs Council Reseazch and requests the Police Department to share
12 and seek input on the City's L�e�Anti-Racial Profiling Policy with lnterested Community Groups, Organizarions
13 and Individual Community Leaders.
