An Administrative Resolution amending the
Civil Service Rules.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate and desirable to establish the title of
Administrative Assistant--Community Services in Grade 16 of the Pro-
fessional-Admi.nistrative Group; and
, WHEREAS, it is also appropriate and desirable to establish Class
Specifications for the title of Administrative Assistant--Community Services;
and
WHEREAS, it is also appropriate and desirable to abolish the title and.
specifications for Administrative Aide--Community Services except as to
present incumbents; riow, therefore,, bg it
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6
und.er the heading "Professional-Adrninistrative" Group in Grade 16, by
inserting the title of ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT--COMMUNITY SERVICES;

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further �
amended in 5ection 49 thereof, by inserting, in its proper alphabetical order,
the attachecl specification for ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT--COMMUNITY
SERVICES; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 6 thereof, by placing an asterisk (�) before the title of
ADMINISTRATIVE AIDE--COMMUNITY SERVICES in Grade 41 under the
heading "Subprofessional" Group; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further
amended in Section 49 by striking out the specifications for the title of �
ADMINI5TRATIVE AIDE--COMMUNITY SERVICES and substituting in lieu
thereof the following statement:
"This title is abolished except as to present incuxnbents. "

DESCR]PTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs highly responsible professional
work providing staff assistance to an administrator in reviewing, analy-
zing and coordinating department operations, directs special projects
as assigned; performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and. administrative
supervision of a department head.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise within the department general technical
supervision directly over assigned clerical workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Collects and analyzes planning, problem solving and program evaluation;
prepares reports and recommendations.
Reviews operating procedures; develops, recommends and implements new
or modi.fied methods and procedures.
Provides general or technical information regarding departmental functions
and policy to the public and state and local agencies; supplies information
requested by the City Council, Mayor's Office and other City departments.
Assists in developing long range plans for departmental programs and projects.
Schedules and conducts departmental staff ineetings.
Represents the department at committee and civic group meetings.
Directs special administrative or operating projects as assigned by the
department head.
Discusses plans, programs, objectives and procedures with division heads,
and reports and makes recommendations to the department head.
KNOW LEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working ability to prepare and present reports and recommendations.
Considerable knowledge of the principles and theories of management.
Considerable knowledge of department functions, practices and procedures.
Considerable ability to plan and organize work.
Considerable ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with all levels of
management and the general public .
Considerable skill in organizing and implementing special projects.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
College graduation and six years' experier�ce in administrative work, at
least two years of which must have been in a responsible administrative
capacity.
