WHEREAS, the relocation of traffic in the Central Business District has been
proposed for the summer of 1978 in conjunction with the development of Block A
� and the Galleria; and
WHEREAS, the traffic presently on Seventh Street and Eighth Street will be re-
located to Eighth Street and Ninth Street; and
WHEREAS, the traffic signals on Eighth Street are positioned and aimed in the
wrong direction for the relocated traffic and there are no signals on Ninth
Street; and
WHEREAS, the traffic signals are warranted and necessary for Eighth Street and
Ninth Street; and
WHEREAS, the estimated costs for these signals revisions are $26,000 for design
and $274,000 for equipment and installation; and
WHEREAS, the funding of this $300,000.00 is presently being considered for
recommendation in the 1978 Capital Improvement Program Budget; and
WHEREAS, the 1978 Budget will not be adopted until October of 1977; and
WIiEREAS, the design, the approval of plans, the letting and awarding of contract
and construction of the signals take one year from initiation; and
WHEREAS, the plan to close Seventh Place to traffic is scheduled for early
summer of 1978; �
NOW, TfiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Department of Public Works be authorized
to make surveys, detailed investigations, prepare plans and specifications, and
meet with the affected citizens, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the 1977 Public Works design expenses be paid from
the unencumbered balance of $30,000 in Account 92075-010, Realignment of Eighth "
