An Administrative Re solution e stablishing a new
title and class specification in the Civil 5ervice Rules.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate and desirable to establish a new class
title of Program Coordinator - Police and Class Specifications for said
title; and
WHEREAS, said class shall be in the Classified Service of Civil
Service; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended by adding to
Section 6, in Grade 10 under the heading "Professional-Administrative"
Group, the title PROGRAM COORDINATOR-POLICE; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that tlie Civil Service Rules be further
amended by inserting in Section 49, in proper alphabetical order, the attached
Class Specification for the new title of PROGRAM COOR.DINATOR-POLICE.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR - POLICE
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible work developing,
implementing, maintaining and coordinating the Neighborhood
Assistance Officer Program in the Police Department; and performs
related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general direction of a unit or
division head.
Supervision Exercised; Exercises within a unit close supervision over
clerical and volunteer workers.
TYPIGAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in �
this class.
Recruits applicants for Neighborhood Assistance Officer positions.
Develops and executes a system for effective screening of NAO applicants.
Works with the Police Department Training Unit to establish and coordinate
NAO Training Course.
Prepares lesson plans and teach certain courses.
Establishes and implements performance appraisal system for the NAO
p rogram participants.
Designs and implement publicity and public educational programs regarding
the NAO program.
Assists in selecting valid and reliable method of evaluating the NAO prog�ram.
Writes and designs promotional items such as brochures, inf.ormation sheets,
posters, charts, slide presentation and video tapes.
Serves as a resource person, when requested, for other police �departments
and agencies regarding the NAO program.
Develops procedure manuals.
Investigates complaints and conf�icts involving NAO's.
Monitors and assists in purchasing, preparation of budget requests, and
financial planning.
W rite s program material.
Participates on police and citizen planning committees.
Sets up and supervises office procedures.
Coordinates all phases of the NAO program.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public and
staff personnel.
Working ability to organize and coordinate work activities.
Considerable ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing,
Some knowledge of the policies, procedures and services of the department.
MINIMUN! QUALIFICATIONS '
College graduation with a maj or in journalism, english, education or
related subjects and two years' experience involving the responsibility
for organizing or coordinating programs or activities.
