DrJSCRIPTION OF WORK
General Staternent of Duties: Performs responsible managerial work
irecting e planning, organizing and administrating the City's
prograrris of housing and building inspec�ion, zoning, building de sign
and plan examinations; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received; Works under the general guidance and direction of
the Da.rector �f Community Services.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a division general technical
and adminzstrative supervision directly and through subordinate
supervisors over skilled inspection, clerical and engineering work.
T�PICAL DUTIES PERFORMEI?
The listed examples may not iz�clude all dut�.�s performed by all positions in
this class,
Supervises, reviews and approves public building designs, parks and
recreation engineering and pYanning.
Reviews subardinate supervisors' organizational assignments and revie�j
of field and office personnele
�upervises the review and approval of all plans for compliance with pro-
visions of bui2ding, housing and zoning codes; interprets codes,
establishes fines and enforces all provisions of building, housing and
zoning codes.
Designs, installs and maintains a system of housing inspection for minimum
acceptable standards of health and safety.
Desagns and directs the inspection, sumrnary abatement and condemnation
of hazardous or vacant buildings within legal guidelines.
Inspects and approves building materials in connection with building and
housing codes and other pertinent requirements.
Coordinates and collects data, directs and prepares project and annual
budgets for a division; clirects expenditures of funds and keeping of
division records.
Provides structural and design engineering and architectural cansultation
to Ci�y departments.
Directs the construction inspection of City owned buildings and facilities.
Directs the administration of the City' s zoning ordinance.

Expert knowledge of building materials and design techniques.

and procedures.
Expert ability to read and interpret building, housing and zoning codes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION5
Registration as a professional engineer or architect in the State of
Minnesota, certification as a building official by the State of
Minnesota, and eight years' experience in building code enforce-
ment �vork, at least two years of which must have been in a
responsible administrative capacity.
