Dear Representative Petrafeso: : -

.,
; The 24innesota AFL-CIO strongly supports yaur bill., 1,F. 2$S, to prohibi
discriminatory trade practices based on race, sex, national origin or
religion. Not only is such.discrimination repugnan:. to the Iabor movement
with regard to American citizens, but the case at hand, the Arah boycott
of Israel, is doubly repugnant because Israel is one of our staunchest .
allies. -
Also at issue is the willingness of America to defend its sovereignty and
, moral principles. Not only do the Arab nations refuse to deal commercially
. with Israel, they also demand that American fir:ns ich wish to do business
with them refrain from transactions with Israel. ey demand that American
firms practice reigious discrimination in hiring, gromotion job assignmen,
_ selection of corporate officers and in dealing wit other American firms. .
This secondary boycott'attempts to impose upon the .-nerican people practices .
= of racial and religious bigotry which violate Ar.ierican belief and Iaw and
^ seeks to make Minnesota firms the agents of hostile acts against a friendZy
.- nation. This constitutes an unacceptable intrusion into our domestic life
and an unacceptable attempt to coerce American forign policy.
The Minnesota AFL-CIO stands with the AFL-CIO in declaring that the imposition
' of the Arab boycott on American-owned business mus. be stopped by appropriate
legislation.
Sincerely,
. '
