THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SAINT PAUL DOES OR.D.AIN:
Section 1. That Ordinance No. 7607, approved Febrtiary 13, 1935,
as amended, be and the same is hereby further amended by striking out the
specifications for Cashier I--Water Department and Cashier II--Water
Department. .

hereby further amended by inserting, in their proper alphabetical order,

DESCRIPTION OF WORI�
General Statement of Duties: Performs entry level clericaZ work involv-
ing receiving and accounting for money; and performs related duties
as required.
Supervision Received: Worl�s under the immediate technical supervision
of a lead worker and the close administrative supervision of a unit head.
Supervision Exercised: None
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Receives checks and cash in payment for City services; prepares and issues
receipts.
Tabulates and balances receipts; sorts and counts cash; endorses and tabu-
lates checks; prepares receipts for bank deposit.
Validates bills and other receipts; performs related clerical work.
Operates cash register, adding machine and validating machine.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Some knowledge of cashiering methods, practice and terminology.
Some ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with the public.
Working ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic computations by
hand and with the use of an adding machine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS.
None.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs skilled clerical work receivin� and
accounting for money; and performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Worl�s under the close supervision of a unit head.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise within a unit immediate technical
supervision directly over lower level cashiers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Receives checks and cash in payment for City services; prepares and issues
receipts.
Tabulates and balances receipts; sorts and counts cash; endorses and tabu-
lates checks.
Prepares and reconciles bank deposit; completes reports of daily transactions.
Operates cash register, adding machine and validating machine.
Maintains working cash fund supply and replenishes as necessary.
Trains new employees; assists cashiers in balancing receipts.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of cashiering methods, practice and terminology.
Working ability to deal tactfully and efficiently with the public.
Working ability to prepare financial reports and records.
Considerable ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic computations by
hand and with the use of an adding machine.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years' experience as a Cashier I or equivalent.

PURPOSE AND RATIQNALE FOR THIS ACTION:
This Ordinarice repla.�es the titles and specifications for �ashier I-Water Department
a.nd Cashier II-Water ;Department with the titles and speci�ications for Cashier I and
Cashier II.
These specificatioas b.ave been written in the new format which includes "supervision
received, supervisio� exercised, and the knowledge, skills �nd abilities" required of
the position.s. Altl�o�h the "examples of work performed" have been rewritten, there
have not been any chaii�ges i.n the basic responsibilities of these positi.ons. The minimum
qualifications have be}�n reviewed by the Minimum Qualifications Committee. .
