PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING SUPERVISOR
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs responsible supervisory and
administrative work planning, directing and coordinating professional
public health nursing services of the Public Health Division; and
performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general guidance and direction of
the Director of Medical Services and Division Head.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within the unit general technical and
administrative supervision of subordinate supervisors and over pro-
fessional nursing staff through subordinate supervisors.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Plans and evaluates professional nursing programs in private schools,
clinics and other City health projects.
Coordinates staffing activities of tlie unit and assists in the coordination
of public health nursing activities with other City health programs.
Assists in assessing health needs of the City with other professional and
community groups and plans nursing services to meet these needs.
Assesses need; plans and directs in-service training to develop and
maintain professiona.l nursing services.
Establishes, evaluates and reviews nursing policies, functions and pro-
cedures.
Recommends personnel actions including selections, promotion, and leave;
evaluates the work of subordinates.
Plans and directs an integrated record-keeping system for nursing programs
and activities.
Directs the assembly and prepares final statistical and narrative reports
of present and future program activities and makes appropriate recommen-
dations including priorities of nursing programs; participates in budget
preparation.
KNOWLEDGES, SKiLLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public health nursing.
Thorough knowledge of work objectives and how to reach them.
Considerable ability in human relations skills.
Considerable ability to evaluate capabilities of unit and staff and to assign
work.
Considerable ability to recognize potential problems and solve them.
5FECIAL REQUIREMENT
Current license to practice �rofessional nursing in Minnesota.
��tate Certification as a Fublic Health Nurse.
I�iinnesota Driver's License.

College graduation and certification as a public health nurse and six
years' professional experience as a public health nurse, at least
