An Administrative Resolution establishing a new title
and class specification in the Civil 5ervice Rules.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate and d.esirable to establish a new class
title of Forestry Crew Leader and Class Specifications for said title;
now, tlYerefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended by adding to
Section ?, under the heading "Semi-Skilled Labor", in alphabetical order,
the title of Forestry Crew Leader; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, t�iat the Civil Service Rules be further
amended by inserting in Section 49, in proper alphabetical order, the
attached Class Specification for the new title of FORESTRY CREW LEADER, �

FORESTRY CREW LEADER
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs lead work directing the mainten-
ance, trimming and care of boulevard, park and parkway trees; and
performs related duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the general technical and administra-
tive supervision of a supervisor.
Supervision Exercised: Exercises within a unit immediate technical super-
vision directly over workers as assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
In the capacity of a leader:
Climbs trees using ladders, ropes, and safety belts.
Trims and prunes trees.
Sprays, paints, and disinfects trees for the control of insects and
diseases.
Fells trees.
Trims branches from power lines.
Plants and fertilizas trees.
Cleans and fills cavities and reinforces trees with bolts and cables.
Uses power saws, brush clippers, stump diggers, sprayers, saws,
axes, wedges, ropes, aerial trucks, and other related equipment.
Drives vans, pickups and other smaller vehicles in connection with
their work.
Operates safety devices on aerial lifts.
Sees that the instructions and orders of the Foreman are carried out.
Sees that the members of the crew work efficiently and safely.
Makes time and work reports and keeps records of materials used.
Sees that tools and equipment are accounted for.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of procadures and techniques to perform safely a
variety of physical tasks.
Working skill in tha safe use of hand and power tools and materials used
in the trimming and maintenance of trees.
Some ability to work under adverse weather conditions.
Working ability to demonstrate work practices and to direct work.
Working ability to deal courteously with the public.
Working ability to understand and to follow written and oral instructions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two years' experience as a Tree Trimmer II or equivalent.

This Resolution, amendin� Sectioa II of the Salary Plan and Rates of Compeneation
Resolution, establishes the rate of compensation for tb.e new title. of Forestry Grew
Leader. The �ates being establiahed are $7. 49 for the prese�t time and $7. 89 � •
ho�.r effective Sept+�mber 1, 1977. These rates are 20�` above th.e rates for the title
of Tree Trimmer II which is our normal differeatial for a Crew Leader.
This Resolution replac�� an Ordinance previously writtez� and approved by the Civil
Service Commission on 6-20-77. This replacement is beib.g made because the Givil
Service Rvles have recently been adopted as a Resolution.
