An Administrative Resolution establishing a new�
title and class specification in fihe Civil Service Rules.
WHEREAS, it is appropriate and desirable to establish a new .class
title of Safety and Health Technician and Class Specifications for said title;
now, therefo"re, be it
RE�OLVED, that the Ci�a�� Service Rules be amended by adding to

Section 6, in�Grade 26 under the h�ading "5ubprofessional" Group, the title
Safety and Health Technician; ancl �Ce it -
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended
by inserting in Section 49, in proper alphabetical order, the attached Class
Specification for the new title of Safety and Health Technician.

SAFETY AND HEALTH TECHNICIAN
DESCRIPTION OF WORK
' General Statement of Duties: Performs work involved in the instruction
and enforcement of city safety program and policies; and performs
related work as assigned.
S�ervision Received: Works under the general direction of a unit or
division head.
Supervision Exercised: None
. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed exaraples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Conducts training seminars in occupational safety and first aid.
Conducts defensive driving classes for city employees.
Conducts routine investigations of job related accidents involving city
employees.
Assists in the implementation and monitoring of the personal protective
equipment programs for city employees.
Assists in providing technical assistance to departmental safety committees.
Assists in the investigation of potentially hazardous environmental condi-
tions at city work sites.
Assists in the collection, analysis and maintenance of the accident and
injury statistics of city employees.
Acts as fuel services coordinator during declared energy emergencies.
KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the general public
and other department personnel.
Considerable knowledge in First Aid and safety techniques.
Working ability to instruct.
Ability to work without close supervision.
Ability to make oral presentations.
Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration rules.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school graduation and three (3) years' experience in occupational
safety and health activities involving inspection, compliance review
and enforcement. Must become certified as a First-Aid Instructor
during the probationary period.
