Supervision Received: Works under the general supervision of a building inspection supervisor. Supervision Exercised: None TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Inspects building materials and workmanship for compliance with building codes and City contract specifications. Inspects structure s for compliance with zoning ordinance s and fire safety regulations. Inspects damaged or deteriorated structures for compliance with building codes; recommends rehabilitation or razing to owners and supervisors. Investigates complai.nts of material and workmanship, quality,and violations of zoning ordinances. Issues citations when necessary to enforce compliance.with building codes and zoning ordinances, may testify in court concerning results of inspections. Orders work stoppages until violations of building codes, zoning ordinances and City contract specifications are corrected. Explains building codes, zoning ordinances, and specifications of City contracts to contractors, property owners and general public upon request. Verifies work permits and City certification of person engaged in building work. Recommends corrective actions to persons involved in violations. Prepares records and reports of investigations and violations of buiZding codes, City contract specifications, zoning ordinances, and work permits for a senior inspector. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Considerable knowledge of local, state and federal buildi.ng codes pertaining to building materials and workma.nship. Considerable knowledge of building materials and workmanship. Working ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing. Considerable ability to interpret blueprints and plans involving architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and engineering designs. Considerable ability to work in hazardous conditions.
