96-1314 �� �(,� � � Council File # �l,�P �3 �� �.b s-� ;-�-�� e... - ( I Green Sheet # � �� RESOLUTION • CITY OF SAINT PAUL, NIINNFSOTA , Presented By Referred To Committee: Date i WHEREAS, public art displays depicting the City of Saint Paul as a historic community on the 2 Mississippi River enhance the City's traditions and uniqueness, and 3 4 WHEREAS, Mayor Norm Coleman, while in attendance at a performance by the Saint Paul Chamber s Orchestra, was presented with a framed painting entitled, "Saint Paul The Great Race" depicting 6 vibrant city river activity of more than a century ago, and � s WHEREAS, the generous and thoughtful gift was made by Captain William Bowell of the Padelford 9 Packet Boat Company, and io ii WHEREAS, state law, city charter and city code authorize the acceptance of gifts and property to the i2 City and their appropriation to public use, now therefore be it, 13 i4 RESOLVED, that the Council hereby accepts the painting from Captain Bowell as a gift to the City is and extends to him, on behalf of all of Saint Paul's citizens, a warm and appreciative thank you for his i6 generosity, and i� is F[JRTHER RESOLVED, that the Council hereby appropriates the use of the painting to the Mayor 19 for display in his office and determines that acceptance and appropriation of the gift enhances the 2o City's bank of fine public art, and well serves a community purpose, and 21 22 FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Council direct its secretary to send a copy of this resolution to 23 Captain Bowell.
