1 Whereas, America's Smithsonian Exhibit was held at the Saint Paul Civic Center
2 from October 16, 1996 to November 14, 1996.

4 Whereas, City staff, members of the City Council, and Department and Office
5 Directors were invited to attend receptions by Mayor Coleman at the Saint Paul Civic
6 Center held on Monday, November 4, 1996 and Monday, November 11, 1996.

8 Whereas, the receptions were held to thank all of the corporations and individuals
9 who have worked so hard to make the Smithsonian Exhibit in Saint Paul such a
10 huge success.

12 Whereas, it was beneficial to communicate official city support by attendance at the
13 reception and further the re-vitalization of downtown Saint Paul.

15 Now therefore, be it Resolved, that the City formally accept the invitation as gifts
16 to the City and in turn appropriate them to the use of the City's attendees, and
17
18 Further Resolved, that the City Council declares a public purpose in accepting the
19 invitation as a needed measure of public support for the Smithsonian's national
20 tour.
