RESOLUTION

2 Whereas, it is important to take advantage of opportunities for the City of Saint Paul to
3 provide jobs, promote economic vitality and tourism, and increase the visibility of the City;

5 Whereas, the Smithsonian Institutions's exhibit was such a major opportunity for the City;

7 Whereas, there may be similar opportunities involving the Smithsonian Institution or related
8 similar events in the future;

10 Whereas, the Smithsonian Institution has requested the assistance of the City in planning the
11 e�ibit's tour in Houston, Texas, and is willing to pay for the travel, lodging and meal
12 expenses of a staff person to travel to Houston beginning on or about Thursday, November 21
13 through on or about Saturday, November 23;

15 Whereas, under state law and City Charter and Administrative Code, the City of Saint Paul
16 can accept gifts for and on behalf of the City, which gifts then become property of the City
17 and are available for appropriation by the City Council for public purposes.

19 Now, Therefore, be it Resolved by the Saint Paul City Council:

21 1. The City Council accepts the offer of the Smithsonian Institution to provide travel and
22 related expenses (hereafter "Gift") for a trip to Houston, Texas from on or about November
23 21, 1996 through on or about November 23, 1996 for a City staff person.

25 2. The City Council appropriates the use of the Gift to the Office of the Mayor for the
26 purpose of sending a City staff person to Houston, Texas in planning the Smithsonian
27 Institute's e�ibit in Houston.

2 3. The City Council finds and determines that the City's acceptance and appropriation of the
3 Gift is of benefit to the citizens of Saint Paul and serves public purposes by promoting the
4 City for economic development and tourism related purposes.
