2 Whereas, Councilmember Dino Guerin has submitted his resignation as the
3 Councilmember representing Ward 7 in the City of Saint Paul effective January 6, 1997;

5 Whereas, under the City Charter, the City Council has 30 days from the date of the
6 vacancy to select a qualified voter in the City who is a resident of Ward 7 to fill the
7 unexpired term of councilmember Guerin;

9 Whereas, notice of the vacancy and solicitation of applications has been provided to
10 news media and community organizations asking that interested and qualified persons submit
11 a resume and letter of interest to Gerald Strathman, Director City Council Research and
12 investigation by 4:30 p.m January 2, 1997; and
13
14 Whereas, such notice also stated that a public hearing would be held by the City
15 Council on Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. in the City Council chambers to receive
16 testimony from applicants and the public concerning who should be appointed to fill the
17 vacancy.

19 NOW, THEREFORE, Be it Resolved by the Saint Paul City Council:

21 A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 1997 at 4:30 p.m. in the City
22 Council chambers to take testimony from applicants for the councilmember vacancy in Ward
23 7 and other interested members of the public at the conclusion of which the City Council will
24 begin its process for determining who will fill the vacancy.

Vacancy in Saint Paul City Council Ward 7
Application Solicitation
and
Notice of Public Hearing
Councilmember Dino Guerin has submitted his resignation as
Councilmember representing Ward 7 effective January 6, 1997 so that
he may assume office as a Ramsey County Commissioner.
Under the Saint Paul City Charter, the City Council has 30
days to fill the vacancy. The person selected to fill the vacancy
will fill the unexpired term of Councilmember Guerin which term
expires the first business day in January, 1998 .
The City Council is accepting applications for the vacant
council position. Eligible candidates must be Ward 7 residents and
qualified to vote in the City. Persons interested should submit a
letter of interest and resume by 4:30 p.m. January 2, 1997 to
Gerald Strathman, Director of City Council Research and
Investigation, 310 City Hall, 15 West Kellogg Boulevard, Saint
Paul, Minnesota, 55102 .
The Saint Paul City Council will conduct a public hearing on
Wednesday, January 8, 1997, beginning at 4 :30 p.m. in the City
Council Chambers, 3rd floor City Hall to consider testimony from
interested candidates and the public concerning who should be
appointed to fill the vacancy.
