6 WHEREAS, the Division of Parks and Recreation is in possession of park records
7 consisting of park board minutes dating from the 1870's with some historical value; and
8
9 WHEREAS, these records are stored in a vault which is safe from fire, but the
10 documents are subject to disintegration; and
11
12 WHEREAS, the Minnesota Historical Society has expressed an interest in having those
13 records and others park records with historical value transferred to the Minnesota State
14 Archives; and
15
16 WHEREAS, records transferred to the Minnesota Historical Society would be
17 organized, boxed, cleaned, listed and repaired as necessary, and made available to researchers;
18 and
19
20 WHEREAS, transfer of the documents to the State Archives will safeguard the
21 documents and make them available to interested citizens; now, therefore, it is hereby

2 RESOLVED, that the Division of Parks and Recreation shall determine which of the
3 stored park records are appropriate for transfer to the Minnesota State Archives and the
4 Director or his designee shall be authorized to enter into any necessary agreements for their
5 transfer; and be it

7 FURTHER RESOLVED, that an inventory of the records shall be prepared and
8 maintained by the Division of Parks and Recreation listing the documents which have been
9 transferred to the Minnesota Historical Society.

Many historical parks records are stored in less than ideal circumstances, subjecting them to disintegration. Transferring
them to the Minnesota Historical Society will allow them to be preserved for the future.
ADVANTAGES IF APPROVED:
Historians and other researche�s, who now have limited access to the park records, will be able to obtain more information
about the beginnings of the Saint Paut Parks System.
