An administrative Resolution amending the Civil Service
Rules changing the grades and class specifications for
the titles of Graphic Artist I and Graphic Artist II.
� RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6
under the heading "Professional-Administrative" group by p].acing a
double-star (��) before the title of Graphic Artist I in Grade 7 and
before the titJ.e of Graphic Artist II in Grade 10, and by adding at the
bottom of the page the following statement:
"�� This tit].e in this grade is abolished except as to present
incumbents. " However, if a Graphic Artist II is promoted
to Graphic Artist III and if the vacancy in the Graphic Artist
II title created by this promotion is filled from within the
City, the person promoted to this job shall be paid on the
double-starred title rate; provided, however, that this
promotion must take place within six months of the fi.11ing
of the Graphic Artist III position.

amended in Section 49 thereof by striking out the class specifications
for the titles of Graphic Artist I and Graphic Artist II and substituting
in lieu thereof the attached class specifications for the titles of Graphic

DESCRIPTION OF WORK
General Statement of Duties: Performs entry level professional work pro-
viding illustration, layout and design services; and performs related
duties as required.
Supervision Received: Works under the close supervision of a higher level
Graphic Artist or unit head.
Supervision Exercised: May exercise technical superyision over clerical
and technical workers.
TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED
The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in
this class.
Prepares graphic presentations used in publications, presentations, studies
and reports including charts, graphs, designs, colored renderings and
related applications.
Prepares exhibits.
Corrects maps and keeps base maps up to date.
Designs layouts, including keylining and color layout wor;c.
Designs and renders original art and design work for illustrating specific
data in reports and publications.
Recommends and selects grade and color of paper.
Recommends and selects type and media to be used.
Takes and develops photographs.
Checks, corrects or approvesT�hotographic originals, silver print proofs
and color keys.
Arranges for final printing and reviews the printing for compliance with
specifications.
Does hand lettering and prepares signs and showcards.
Maintains related records.
Prepares reports and recommendations.

Some knowledge of visual art and printing techniques and materials.

assigned.

To prepare graphic presentations used in publications,
presentations, studies and reports including charts,
graphs, designs, colored renderings and related
applications.
To prepare exhibits.
To collect and record data pertaining to basic planning and
zoning studies.
To correct maps and keep base maps up to date.
To design layouts, includ.ing keylining and color
layout work.
To design and render original art and design work for
illustrating specific data in reports and publications.
