Hummer was a member of Saint Paul's Long-Range Capital Improvement Budget Co'mmittee from January, 1969, to September, 1977, and WHEREAS, Mr. Hummer in more than eight and one-half years of service as a CIB Committee member contributed countless hours of unselfish dedication to the City' s Capital Improvement Budget process, and WHEREAS, Mr. Hummer always exhibited a truly citywide concern when making budget recommendations, and WHEREAS, Mr. Hummer exhibited strong leadership in developing budget policies, budget process and project rating sheet considerations, and WHEREAS, The City Council of Saint Paul, upon the recommendation of the Long- Range Capital Improvement Budget Committee and the Mayor, did recognize Otto' s work, extend profound gratitude to him for his service to the City, and ex- press respect and appreciation to Mr. Hummer, and WHEREAS, Otto died on July 18, 1978, at the age of 76 years, and WHEREAS, The many Saint� Paul citizens who knew Otto expressed love and respect for him, as he was a kind and generous person who worked hard to serve his City, and WHEREAS, The CIB Committee, on behalf of all those who knew Otto Hummer or benefited from his civic work, did acknowledge in the "CIB Report Number Thirteen, adopted July 26, 1978, " the loss of a dedicated person who worked hard for the betterment of the City of Saint Paul, and WHEREAS, The people who worked with Mr� Hummer would like to see a more last- ing and visual memorial to Otto which would acknowledge his public service to Saint Paul, and - COUNCILMEN Requested by Department of: Yeas Na}�s Butler (n Favor Hozza Hunt � , �;� �' '� Levine _ Against BY _ Maddox Showalter � Tedesco Form Approved �+ City Attorn � (;� Adopted by� Council: Date - � � � � 1 i ?�; � Certified Passed by Council Secretary BY ` ��` ,• By� L �, - . WHEREAS, Otto lived in Highland Park, donated his service to many Highland Park organizations and activities, and worked hard in supporting the develop- ment of the Highland pool, and WHEREAS, It is consistent with City tradition to remember honored citizens by naming streets after them and dedicating buildings in memory of their service, now therefore •., BE IT RESOLVED, By the Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon the recom- mendation of the Saint Paul Long-Range Capital Improvement Budget Committee and Mayor George Latimer, that the entrance way to the Highland Park Outdoor Swimming Pool be officially designated the OTTO HUMMER DRIVE, and BE IT RESOLVED, That the Division of Parks and Recreation, Department of Community Services, use a portion of the Highland Park Pool Sitework monies in account #93073-016 to install street signs for OTTO HUMMER DRIVE that complement the character of the swimming pool facility, and . BE IT RESOLVED, That the main building at the Highland Park Outdoor Swimming Pool facility be "Dedicated in Memory of Otto H. Hummer" and that the memorial plaque be provided by the Highland Business Association. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be made a permanent official record of the City and that the original copy of this resolution be released and sent to Mr. Hummer' s family as a testament of the City of Saint Paul' s appreciation to Mr. Otto H. Hummer.
