WHEREAS, it is appropriate and desirable to establish new class titles of Nutritionist I, Nutritionist II, and Nutritionist III, and Class Specifications for said titles; n ow, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be amended in Section 6 thereof, under the heading "Professional-Administrative" Group, by inserting the following titles in the grades indicated: Nutritionist I Grade 7 Nutritionist II Grade 9 Nutritionist III Grade 13 and be it FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Civil Service Rules be further amended by inserting in Section 49, in proper alphabetical order, the attached Class Specifications for the new titles of Nutritionist I, Nutritionist II, and Nutritionist III. '" �,r�,����}y Title of class: NUTRITIONIST I DESCRIPTION OF WORK General Statement of Duties: Performs entry level professional nutrition work involving the assessment, promotion and provision of nutrition programs and education in the community; performs related duties as required. Supervision Received: Works under the close technical and administrative supervision of a higher level nutritionist or unit supervisor. Supervision Exercised: May exercise technical supervision over clerical and para-professional nutrition employees. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Assists, in determining the nature and scope of nutrition needs and in developing program plans to meet these needs. Provides direct nutrition services where indicated in specified public health programs. Makes referrals to community health and social service agencies. Develops and promotes the use of appropriate nutrition educational materials. Assists in developing nutrition education and consultation programs in cooperation with the health education staff. Assists in providing nutrition consultation and in-service education to the division's professional staff and staff of other concerned agencies. Maintains appropriate records and reports. KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Some ability to recognize and prescribe for nutritional deficiences. Working knowledge of nutrition theory and principles. Working ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public. Working knowledge of counseling techniques and methods of nutrition education. Supervision Exerciseci: Exercises within the unit general technical and administrative supervision over professional nutrition staff, para- professional and clerical staff. TYPICAL DUTIES PERFORMED The listed examples may not include all duties performed by all positions in this class. Determines the nature and scope of nutrition needs. Plans, directs and evaluates nut-rition programs provided through the City Health Division. Evaluates the effectiveness of the nutritional components of the division's public health programs. Establishes and maintains communication with other governmental and pro- fessional organizations involved in providing nutritional services. Participates in the selection of new staff, provides orientation and training, evaluates subordinates and recommends personnel actions. Coordinates nutrition programs with services provided by other governmental and private agencies. Provides direct nutrition services where indicated in specific public health programs. Makes referrals to community health and social service agencies. Directs the preparation and maintenance of records and reports. Manages office procedures and staff.
